BURRA FALLS
Mr & Mrs Burton-Taylor engaged architect David Cox to design a home and shed, in a prominent position within the landscape, in a manner which causes the buildings to blend into the landscape when viewed from a distance.
To assist in this goal we used a combination of new and recycled hardwoods in the form of external windows and doors, weatherboards and verandas in conjunction with a very earthy face brick manufactured in Tasmania. One of the more striking features of the house is the recycled bridge timbers that have been used as posts and beams for all the outdoor areas.
The interiors are minimalist, featuring polished concrete floors throughout, floor-to-ceiling tiling in wet areas and the use of veneered timbers and stone bench tops to all the cabinetry.
On completion I think we achieved the goals of the project as the building is very striking. From a distance it blends into the beautiful landscape and surrounding escarpment, taking advantage of the views to the East towards the ocean.
