Terragong 1858

Terragong House is included on the Register of National Estate with the Australian Heritage Commission, as well as on the Register of the National Trust of Australia.  Constructed in 1858, it is a landmark residence in the region.

Upon purchasing Terragong in 2014, the new owners, renowned interior designer Darryl Gordon and hotelier Simon Milner – working in conjunction with The Quinlan Group Architects of Sydney - planned much needed restoration works and sympathetic renovations to the property.  Alan Jurd Building was engaged to undertake the 10-month-long project which included demolition of the 1940s kitchen lean-to, construction of a new kitchen and family room annex, the addition of five bathrooms (including 3 en suites for guest bedrooms), knock-down and rebuild of the Garden Room and installation of much-needed infrastructure including storm drainage, rain water collection, electrical work throughout and asbestos containment and removal.

The single-storey weatherboard wing (housing the guest bedrooms) required extensive restoration work, encompassing everything from foundations to roof.  A striking feature of the new kitchen and family room annex is the traditional exposed truss frames; these were constructed by Chris Nance of Traditional Timber Frames and onsite installation overseen by Alan Jurd and Chris Nance.

The property opened as Terragong 1858 Country House Bed & Breakfast in March 2016.
