CATO PLACE

The clients, Mr & Mrs McRae, engaged Alan Jurd Building after they had a two-storey brick / brick veneer residence designed by architecture firm ADM Projects in Wollongong.  The dwelling is situated on one of the most prominent blocks of land at the top of Mt Keira, with 270 degree uninterrupted views.  The design is prominently face brick with rendered column and lintel features, with large expanses of glass taking full advantage of the views.

On the first floor, the rooms feature high ceilings and generous floor areas, with three master bedrooms, an office and two bathrooms.  The living, dining and kitchen areas are situated on the eastern elevation overlooking the Illawarra coastline, with polished Brush Box floorboards throughout.  The large timber staircase is situated in the centre of the building, with a 1.2m x 1.2m glass sky window centred above the staircase allowing ample natural light throughout.

Downstairs is a self-contained two bedroom unit with kitchen, lounge and bathroom.  Also on this level is a lock-up four car garage with generous storage areas.

On completion of the build the clients further engaged Alan Jurd Building to carry out an extensive amount of landscaping work which included excavation and concrete works to engineer’s design, facebrick fences and retaining walls, terracing for level areas and turfing.
